Starting with RadiantOne Identity Data Management v8 release, we are adopting Semantic Versioning (SemVer), a widely used industry standard (semver.org).
From now on, version numbers will follow this format: MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH with each component representing the following:
- MAJOR – breaking changes
- MINOR – new features (backward-compatible)
- PATCH – bug fixes (backward-compatible)
PREVIOUS IDDM VERSIONING NEW IDDM VERSIONING
What this means for you
- No action is required. You can safely update from any RadiantOne Identity Data Management version of 8.0.x or 8.1.x to v8.2.0. From this point onward, the new versioning scheme will apply.
- Don’t be concerned if you see upcoming versions progress from v8.2 → v8.3 → v8.4. These are minor, backward-compatible updates and safe to apply and update.
Old vs. New at a Glance (Examples)
| Type of change | Old IDDM versioning scheme | New IDDM versioning scheme | Impact |
| Major (breaking) | v7.2 → v7.3 | v8.x.x → v9.x.x | Breaking changes possible |
| Minor (features) | v7.3.1 → v7.3.2 | v8.1.0 → v8.2.0 | Backward-compatible features |
| Patch (bug fix) | v7.3.1 → v7.3.2 | v8.1.2 → v8.1.3 | Backward-compatible bug fixes |
Why this is better
Our new versioning makes it easier for you to understand what’s in each release. With this change, you’ll:
- Immediately see whether a release includes breaking changes, new features, or just bug fixes.
- Get important hotfixes faster (days or weeks), without waiting for the next scheduled minor release, which is typically quarterly.
- Have more confidence when planning and applying upgrades.
